The new Polo GTI comes with several design changes and an improved performance

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the 2021 Polo GTI. The new sporty hatchback gets inspiration from the eighth-generation Golf. It comes equipped with several cosmetic updates and improved performance. The previous-gen Polo GTI was sold in India as a fully imported unit in limited numbers. As of now, there is no news of the new Polo GTI making it to our shores anytime soon. 

The new VW Polo GTI is based on the MQB platform. Upfront, it features newly-designed ‘IQ Light’ LED matrix headlamps along with a full-width front light bar. In addition, it gets a honeycomb mesh grille with integrated DRLs. There is also a decorative red strip positioned above the DRL trim. The striking red GTI logo is present on the radiator grille. The rear end gets a major update in terms of redesigned LED tail-lights with animated brake lights and dynamic turn signals. Other design bits include 17-inch alloy wheels, contrasting black mirrors & roofs, red brake calipers, and dual exhaust tips.


Moving inside the cabin of the 2021 Polo GTI, it boasts of black, red, grey, and chrome theme. From the images, we could see that the pillars and headlining are in titanium black. While the contrasting red stitching can be seen on the steering wheel, gear lever, and outer surface of the seats. Moving on to the dashboard, it comes in Kings Red Glossy with numerous matte chrome accents. Feature-wise, the new Polo GTI offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Beat sound system, a panoramic sunroof, voice control, ambient lighting, height-adjustable front seats, leather sports steering wheel, leather-finished handbrake, wireless charging, among many others. Besides these, the hot hatch gets Volkswagen's new digital cockpit dashboard. The Discover and Discover Pro Media systems come as an option.

The 2021 Polo GTI comes with three driving modes - Eco, Normal, and Sport. Talking about the Sport mode, it offers an enhanced exhaust note. For the first time, the hatchback comes equipped with Volkswagen’s Travel Assist system which includes lane assist, adaptive cruise control, red traffic alert, and side assist. The autonomous emergency braking, driver alert system, and automatic post-collision braking come as standard.

Performance-wise, the four-door sports car comes equipped with a new 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a top power of 206 bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The motor is linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox that sends power to the front axle.
