After Skoda Kushaq, the Volkswagen Taigun is the next big launch under VW Group’s India 2.0 Strategy

Volkswagen unveiled the Taigun earlier this year in March. The five-seater SUV is likely to be launched in September 2021. The German Automaker will commence the bookings for the upcoming Taigun by mid-August in the country.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun: Design

The 2021 Volkswagen Taigun is based on the same platform as the Skoda Kushaq. The new Taigun also borrows some styling cues in terms of the roof, doors, and the glasshouse from its other sibling Kushaq. However, it still comes with subtle changes. Upfront, the SUV features a two slat chrome grille and chrome insert on the lower part of the bumper. In addition, it features single-piece headlights. Moving towards the rear end, the 2021 Taigun comes with a tail light cluster that runs across the width of the tailgate. Furthermore, the bumper gets chrome garnishing.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun: Interior Features

Moving inside the cabin of the upcoming SUV, it gets a minimalistic theme. The infotainment unit is integrated into the dashboard. However, the switchgear is similar to the one present in Kushaq. Feature-wise, the top-end variant of the new Taigun gets a 10-inch infotainment unit compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the My Volkswagen Connect app. Moving on, the SUV comes with features like USB Type-C ports, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, and many more. In terms of safety features, the SUV will get six airbags, tyre pressure deflation warning, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ESC among many others.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun: Engine Specifications

Performance-wise, the 2021 Taigun will come with two turbo-petrol engine options from the TSI engine family. There will be a  1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit capable of returning a power output of 114 bhp and a peak torque of 175 Nm. There will also be a more powerful 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol motor on sale. The engine will generate 149 bhp power and 250 Nm peak torque. Both engines will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the 1.0-litre TSI unit will get a 6-speed torque converter gearbox as an option. While the 1.5-litre TSI unit will come with a 7-speed DCT automatic as an option.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun: Rivals & Price

Once launched, the 2021 Volkswagen Taigun will rival the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, along with its own sibling Skoda Kushaq. Talking about the price, we can expect it to fall in the range of Rs 10.50 lakh - Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
