The upcoming Yamaha FZ-X will strengthen Yamaha’s portfolio in the 150cc-200cc motorcycle segment.

Yamaha Motor India had trademarked the name ‘FZ-X’ last year in December. It was speculated that Yamaha might launch a street bike under this name. However, last month a new Yamaha bike was spotted doing test runs. There were speculations that this could be the FZ-X. Recently, a government document has been leaked online which further reveals some specifications of the upcoming Yamaha FZ-X.

As per the leaked document, the bike is likely to use the engine from the 149cc FZS-FI platform instead of the 250cc model. The air-cooled, SOHC motor can produce a maximum power of 12.1 bhp at 7250rpm and a peak torque of 13.3 Nm at 5500 rpm while being mated to a 5-speed constant mesh. The suspension setup might include the telescopic front forks and a 7-step adjustable rear monocross. The upcoming bike could get the same brake setup as present on the FZ. In that context, braking duties will be taken care of by a 282 mm disc upfront and 220 mm disc at the rear coupled with a single-channel ABS.

Dimensionally, the FZ-X will be different from the FZS-FI. The upcoming bike will stand at 2020mm length, 785mm width, and 1115mm height. Talking about the FZS-FI, the bike is 1990mm long, 780mm wide, and 1080mm tall. However, both bikes are expected to share the same wheelbase of 1330mm.

Yamaha FZ-X is likely to be launched by mid-2021 in the country. As for the price, we can expect the bike to retail at around the same price band as the FZ. Currently, Yamaha FZ is offered at Rs 1.05 lakhs (ex-showroom).
