The 2017 Suzuki Swift is very close to being introduced to the Indian market. The popular hatchback is all set for an India launch in early 2018 and here are five things you need to know:
1. All-New Exterior
Suzuki has done a stunning job with the exterior of the 2017 Swift; the Japanese manufacturer has managed to keep the design language of the original Swift, while still adding enough flair to make sure it stands out. The all-new Swift gets a distinctly new grille, headlights and tail-lights.
2. Age-Old Engines
The India-spec Swift will continue to use the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine as the outgoing car. These engines have been around from quite some time; however the diesel engine might be tuned to produce more power. A new addition is the availability of automatic transmissions on both the petrol and the diesel variant.
3. Lighter And Stiffer Chassis
The 2017 Swift is built on the same platform as the Baleno, but is 10 to 15 percent lighter. This reduction in weight will give the Swift a fuel economy and performance advantage over its more expensive sibling. Maruti also claims that the new platform is 10 percent more rigid than the current one.
4. Refreshed Interior
The Swift’s cabin will be completely overhauled; the new dashboard is simple, with a new, plush steering wheel and sporty, two-pod instrument cluster. The top-spec variant will get equipment such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink capability, similar to that on the Ignis and the Baleno. Moreover, the cabin is also more spacious than the outgoing Swift’s and so is the luggage space.
5. India Arrival in Early 2018
The all-new Swift is expected to be officially revealed at the Auto Expo next year, and will go on sale shortly after. This next-gen Swift will sit below the Baleno in Maruti’s line-up, and will compete directly with the Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10.
