The production car will supposedly be as fast as the 675LT.

The company hasn’t set a date yet for the launch of the battery-powered car, but it will add this car to its Ultimate Series. The Car will be shown sometime after the P15, due later this year, and the three-seat BP23, which is coming in 2018.

The company has confirmed that it is building an electric model, as a test initially, with the larger goal of making half of its Cars hybrid by 2022. A production version will also be introduced - five cars initially and the company will shortlist existing McLaren owners for these cars to get feedback.

McLaren has made the hybrid P1 hypercar and also supplies powertrains to Formula E racing cars. From 2018, McLaren Applied Technologies is going to be providing an improved version of the batter for Formula E cars that will allow drivers to finish the race on a single charge. This type of battery would sit well under the hood of a high-performance road car.
