Kia continues to expand its product line-up in India with the launch of an all-new MPV sometimes in 2022

Kia Motors' rise in the Indian automobile market has been unprecedented over the past couple of years. With the success of Sonet since its launch last year, the company continues to thrive in the fast-growing Indian market. The South Korean automaker has already built a presence in the SUV segment and is now making an attempt to enter the lucrative MPV segment in the country. As per various media reports, Kia Motors India is planning to launch an all-new MPV in the domestic market to further augment its presence. Codenamed as KY, it will arrive in India sometime in 2022. Talking about rivals, the MPV would compete against Mahindra Marazzo and Maruti Ertiga here in the country. Kia KY MPV price in India would be in the bracket of Rs 10 lakh- Rs 17 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).\

Reportedly, Kia KY MPV will be based on the Seltos platform that underpins the new-gen Hyundai Creta. The platform is quite flexible as it can serve as  base for multiple vehicles of different body styles and powertrain options like hybrid, petrol and diesel. Kia’s sister firm Hyundai is also planning a new MPV which will sit on the same architecture as the 7-seater Hyundai Creta. Considering the upcoming MPV will come with a longer wheelbase, the cabin will be spacious than other Kia cars in India.

Kia KY will be coming in both 6-seater as well as 7-seater configurations. The 6-seater model will come with captain seats for the second row. On the other side, the 7-seater configuration will feature a bench-type second row seat. Also, the manufacturer will offer flexible seating arrangements with foldable and sliding seats.

As we have seen with earlier Kia models like Sonet and Seltos, the interior is always feature-rich. We can expect the cabin to feature a large infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fully-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control system and Hyundai BlueLink connectivity among others.

To save costs, Kia might offer the same engine options as the Seltos SUV. It would come with 2 powertrain options – 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. The former would deliver 113bhp of power output and 144Nm of peak torque while the latter will belt out 113bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. The transmission duties would be taken care of by manual and automatic units.
