The all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 is the latest model in Yamaha's R-Series portfolio
The all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 has made its world premiere today digitally. Being the latest model in Yamaha's R-Series portfolio, it is touted as the successor to the R6 while positioned between the R3 and R1. The all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 price is tagged at US$ 8,999 which is nearly Rs 6.57 Lakhs while it will directly rival Aprilia RS 660. The Japanese brand is not keen on bringing the R7 in the Indian market as it is working on an all-new India-spec motorcycle which is based on the FZ-FI and could be termed as Yamaha FZX.
Being based on Yamaha MT-07 streetfighter, it is a fully faired offering with design elements taking cues from other R-Series bikes. It comes with a single-pod projector headlamp, clip-on handlebars and sculpted fuel tank. The new middleweight bike also boasts of rear-set footpegs and LED DRLs too. The YZF-R7 is offered in two single-tone colour options namely Team Yamaha Blue & Raven Black. Yamaha has equipped it with an all-digital instrument cluster which displays a myriad of information such as gear position, real time and average fuel economy. The suspension duties are carried by 41 mm KYB upside-down forks upfront while there is a mono-shock setup at the rear. Both the front and rear suspensions get preload and rebound adjustability as standard.
Mechanically, the all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 is powered by a 689cc liquid-cooled CP2 petrol engine which we have already seen in the MT-07 streetfighter. It develops top power of 72bhp at 8750rpm and peak torque of 67Nm at 6500rpm while linked to a 6-speed transmission. Having a wet weight of 188 kgs, it gets assist and slipper-clutch. As for braking, the bike features radially mounted 298mm dual discs at the front while there is a 245mm disc at the rear. A dual-channel ABS comes as standard safety feature. The bike rides on Bridgestone developed Battlax Hypersport tyres with 120/70 size at front and 180/55 size at the rear. The wheelbase of YZF-R7 is shorter by 7mm as compared to the MT-07.
