Bajaj Auto India has emerged as the number one motorcycle manufacturer in April 2021 in the country. The home-grown automaker sold a total of 3,48,173 units worldwide last month of which 2,21,603 units were exported. Bajaj reinforced its position as the world’s most valuable two-wheeler company with a market cap of Rs 1,10,864 Crores as on 30th April, 2021. The company accounted for nearly 60 percent of India's motorcycle and three-wheeler exports last year as its export income stood at Rs 12,687 Crores with exports to over 79 countries.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto said “We have commenced FY2022 on a very positive note despite the challenging environment. The wide range of motorcycles made by us cover the entire spectrum from entry, middle and up to premium level segments allowing us to engage with a wide spectrum of customers from the mototaxi driver in Africa to the adventure seeker in Europe! This versatility is of enormous value in managing the current volatility as well as uncertainty and to keep the wheels of business moving for all our stakeholders!” In FY 21 itself, Bajaj retailed more than 1.25 million units of Pulsar internationally. Over 80 percent of the company’s exports came from markets where it enjoys the first or second position.
Bajaj has also brought back the iconic 'Chetak' nameplate, albeit in an all-electric avatar this time. The company recently re-opened the bookings for the electric scooter in Pune & Bengaluru but it was sold out in less than 36 hours. Bajaj has announced to start the sales of Chetak in 24 more cities by the end of this year. It has a successful association with KTM which has resulted in KTM becoming the number one premium sports motorcycle brand in the world. The KTM products are locally manufactured at Bajaj's Chakan facility. Recently, the company had also announced an investment of Rs 650 Crores in a fourth facility to be built at Chakan for ramping up the production of premium motorcycles and Chetak electric scooter.
