The 4-door sedan will come with a diesel engine while a petrol unit is also expected in near future

In a big development, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is launching in the Indian market on October 15 2020. It debuted in the International markets way back in October last year. The 2 Series Gran Coupe will be a new car in their sedan portfolio in the country and will be positioned below the 3-series lineup. The sedan will rival the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine and Audi A3. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will become the manufacturer’s smallest 4-door sedan in the domestic market. We can expect BMW India to retail the coupe at a price of around Rs 35 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India). Although not officially launched in the country, yet a few dealerships have started accepting bookings with deliveries reportedly commencing from November.

The new 2-Series sedan shares the underpinnings with the BMW X1 SUV. Talking about the design, the front profile reminds us of the 1 Series hatchback but with a wider grille surrounded by upswept headlamps. The rear styling is reminiscent of the company’s flagship 8 Series Gran Coupe. The rear sports a huge bumper integrated spoiler and L-shaped tail lamps. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is aggressive in styling with a low-slung look, sloping roofline and pillar-less doors giving it a typical new BMW appeal. The sedan's sporty appearance is enhanced with the presence of dual-tone alloy wheels and twin exhausts.

The German automaker doesn’t disappoint in the interiors with the similar dashboard layout that we have seen in the new BMWs coming in the market. The swivel wheel on the central system controls the BMW’s i-drive system. Most of the features are borrowed from the 3- Series sedan like the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, ambient display, dual-zone AC and powered front seats.

BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The engine will deliver a total power output of 190 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine transmission duties will be taken care of by an 8-speed automatic unit. In the near future, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine variant will be launched too. The transmission duties will be handled by the same unit as the diesel engine. In the international markets, BMW sells the M235i xDrive variant but it’s not coming anytime in the domestic market. There is a good chance that the Indian buyers could opt for the optional M package which could bring extra features from the BMW’s M Performance bin.
