The all-New BMW 5-Series has been launched in India in three variants – Sport Line, Luxury Line and M-Sport. Prices start at Rs 49.9 lakh for the base petrol and go all the way to Rs 61.3 lakh for the fully loaded six-cylinder diesel (all prices, ex-showroom, post GST).
The petrol 530i, offered only in Sport Line, gets a 252hp, 2.0-litre, turbocharged engine. There are two diesel engines on offer – a 190hp, 2.0-litre motor (available in Sport Line and Luxury Line), and a 256hp, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder unit, available solely in the fully loaded M-Sport variant. The car is only available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It is larger and lighter than the car it replaces, and as a result, will be more spacious and fuel efficient too. There’s also a lot more technology on board, which comes in the form of a four-zone climate control system, adaptive LED lights, a new 10.25-inch display and gesture control for the infotainment system, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone charging. The top-end variant also comes with a remote parking function and a 600W Harman Kardon audio system.
The 5-series is a competitor to luxury sedans like the Audi A6, the Volvo S90, the new Mercedes E-class long-wheelbase and the Jaguar XF.
