BMW R 18 Cruiser Launched at Rs 18.90 Lakhs

BMW Motorrad India has launched the R 18 cruiser at a starting price of Rs 18.90 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) in the country. Being sold as a completely built-up unit (CBU), it can be ordered from today at the company's authorized dealerships. In addition, the company has also introduced a R 18 First Edition at a sticker price of Rs 21.90 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). BMW R 18 is powered by the largest displacement boxer engine ever built while it comes with a standard warranty for ‘three years, unlimited kilometers’, with an option to extend the warranty to fourth and fifth year.

Based on a double cradle frame, BMW R 18 gets a teardrop tank, mid-mounted foot peg and an exposed driveshaft along with a paintwork with finely drawn double pinstripes. The circular instrument cluster with integrated display is enclosed in a metal housing with decorative chrome rings. The front end flaunts LED headlights with sickle shaped graphical LED daytime running lights. BMW R 18 First Edition features include Blackstorm metallic paintwork with elaborate pinstripes in lightwhite, an eye-catching seat badge, Headlight Pro, Adaptive Headlight, Daytime Riding Light First Edition Pack and a ‘First Edition’ chrome clasp on the side cover. The buyers will also get exclusive insignia, lifestyle accessories, collectibles and a prized book on the near 100-year history of BMW Motorrad.

As far as suspension setup is concerned, the cruiser boasts of a double loop steel tube frame. The duties are handled by a telescopic fork and a directly mounted central suspension strut with travel-dependent damping and adjustable spring preload upfront while there is a swing arm at the rear. The braking system consists of a twin disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. BMW R18 is offered with three standard riding modes – Rain, Roll and Rock. Some of the key safety features include Automatic Stability Control, Dynamic Engine Brake Control, BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, Hill Start Control, Dynamic Brake Light Signals and Keyless Ride system. BMW has tied up with Roland Sands Design to offer the buyers two different design collections of milled aluminium parts – Machined and 2-Tone-Black.

 

BMW R 18 is powered by a newly developed air/oil cooled two-cylinder boxer engine which is the most powerful in series production by the company. The 1802cc engine churns out a top power of 91bhp at 4750rpm and peak torque of 158Nm at 3000rpm. The engine is linked to a constant mesh 6-speed transmission while a reverse gear is available as an optional extra. There is an anti-hopping single-disc dry clutch as standard. The German brand has joined hands with Mustang Seats to provide high-quality handmade seats for the cruiser. Furthermore, it has collaborated with Vance & Hines to offer a custom exhaust system finished either in chrome or with a scratch-resistant black ceramic coating. Roadside Assistance with 24x7 365 days package is also available in case of breakdown and towing situations.
