BMW has gone ahead and revealed the concept X7 iPerformance, the production version of which will be the new flagship SUV for the German motor company. The concept will be showcased at Frankfurt along with the 8-series, i3s and Z4 concept. The X7 will be available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines and a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid with a range of 100km only in electric mode.
The current design is far from what the production version will look like. The road-going version will lose out on the exaggerated kidney grille, huge front air vents and 23-inch alloys. The X7 will sit above the X5 in BMW’s SUV line-up and will be retailed from the second half of 2018 in international markets.
Sources suggest, that the X7 is expected to use the same engine setup used by the 740e xDrive iPerformance, with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor. However, the X7 will likely sport a larger capacity battery because of its sheer size and weight. In the 740e xDrive iPerformance, the hybrid system makes 259hp.
Interestingly, BMW’s designers have opted to give the new SUV concept a revised badge that combines a black-and-white version of the company’s traditional roundel with its name, Bayerische Motoren Werke.
