BMW S 1000 XR, F 900 XR teased; launching soon in India

BMW F 900 XR and S 1000 XR teased; expected to be launched by mid-2020.

BMW Motorrad India recently released a teaser video of its upcoming sports tourers for India namely F 900 XR and the S 1000 XR. Both motorcycles are likely to be launched in India soon. The new BMW F 900 XR is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakhs - Rs 17 lakhs (ex-showroom), while the 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is speculated to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakhs - Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). The all-new BMW F 900 XR first debuted at the 2019 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. While the BMW S 1000 XR has been completely revamped for 2020.

The new BMW F 900 XR has been derived from the Concept 9cento that was showcased back in 2018. It features twin-pod LED headlights, adjustable windscreen, large 15.5-litre fuel tank and a 6.5-inch TFT screen with BMW Motorrad Connectivity that offers access to phone calls, music and navigation. The motorcycle comes equipped with USD forks up front and a central suspension strut towards the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by twin front discs and a single rear disc. As for safety features, the BMW F 900 XR comes with a switchable ABS and Automatic Stability Control. The sports tourer is powered by an 895cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled mill that churns out 105 bhp power and 92 Nm torque. The German automaker has also added counterbalance shafts to reduce engine vibrations.

The BMW S 1000 XR is based on the S1000RR. It comes with a revised front fascia. It features a twin-LED headlamp instead of an asymmetrical headlight setup. Other highlighted features include a fully coloured TFT instrument cluster. The BMW S 1000 XR is powered by a revised 999cc liquid-cooled, in-line 4-cylinder engine that produces 165 bhp power and 114 Nm torque. This powertrain complies with the new BS6 emission norms. In terms of electronics, the sports tourer comes equipped with engine drag torque control, wheelie control, quick shifter, hill start assist, traction control, and a six-axis IMU.
