The recently launched 5-series and the upcoming 6-series GT are the latest examples of the company’s focus on luxury sedans.

The all-new X3 and X7 will make their way to India soon, but BMW remains confident of the popularity of luxury sedans here. Vikram Pawah, president, BMW Group India said, “The Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV), as we call them, are getting popular and that’s why the new X1 is doing very well. Similarly, we are seeing traction with the X3. But sedans continue to remain popular and we are seeing a lot of demand for it from corporate executives.”

According to Pawah, the new 5-series is the model with which BMW plans to consolidate its foothold in the executive sedan segment. Nearly 30 percent of all BMWs sold in India last year were 5-series models, so you can expect this 5 to be a strong contender too.

The new 5 competes with the likes of Volvo’s S90, Jaguar’s XF and Audi’s A6. To compete with the stretched-out Mercedes-Benz E-class, BMW will introduce the all-new 6-series GT. The GT is larger, more stylish, more comfortable and is practical version of the new 5-series. The company will manufacture the 6-series GT at its Chennai plant. Prices will be in the ₹60-70 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom) region.

Once the 6-series GT is launched, BMW will introduce the seventh-gen 3-series sometime in 2019.
