The car will feature 248hp petrol and 190hp diesel engines at launch.

The third-generation X3 will go on sale in India on April 19, 2018 and will take on the likes of the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo XC60.

While the car’s silhouette remains, the rear has differently designed ‘L-shaped’ tail-lamps, and there’s a larger kidney grille at the front, plus the headlamps are spaced further apart. The chassis of this car is stiffer, and the BMW is 55kg lighter than its predecessor. The new model is longer, so you can expect more room on the inside.

The car will be on sale initially with a 190hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel in the X3 xDrive20d and a 248hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol in the xDrive30i. In the near future, a 265hp, 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel and a 360hp, 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol motor could arrive. The engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic, which sends power to all four wheels, as standard.

The car will be sold with tech from the 5-series, like the touch-and-gesture-controlled iDrive infotainment system, a head-up display and 360-degree cameras. Adaptive dampers could also be on offer.

The car might be priced slightly higher than the outgoing car.
