Ford India is all set to launch the BS6 Endeavour SUV in the Indian market. It has been reported by Autocar India that besides the engine upgrade and the introduction of a new 10-speed automatic transmission, it will also come with a handful of cosmetic updates. The American automaker has decided to do away with the ongoing BS4 2.2 litre 4-cylinder and 3.2 litre 5-cylinder engines and replace them with a BS6 compliant 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.
Being dubbed as "Panther" by the company insiders, the new BS6 certified 2.0 litre diesel engine develops a power output of 170bhp at 3500rpm and peak torque of 420Nm between 1750-2250rpm. The engine is equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust after-treatment system to meet the stringent BS6 emission norms. For those asking, the BS4 compliant 2.2 litre and 3.2 litre diesel engines deliver maximum power and highest torque of 160bhp & 385Nm and 200bhp & 470Nm with the Endeavour currently. They are paired to a 6-speed auto transmission which will now be replaced by an all-new 10-speed automatic unit.
2020 BS6 Ford Endeavour will certainly have an edge over its rivals as it will be the only SUV in the country to come with a 10-speed auto gearbox. The closest are the diesel versions of the Jeep Compass and Honda CR-V as both of them boast of a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Ford Endeavour's arch rival Toyota Fortuner is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The primary highlight of the new 10-speed automatic unit is the inclusion of real-time adaptive algorithms which enables a driver to skip gears while in hurry. In addition, the Progressive Range Selection is also a noteworthy inclusion but the buyers will miss the paddle shift feature.
