Hyundai India is all set to launch the new-gen 2020 BS 6 Creta SUV on March 17 in the country. The South-Korean automaker has showcased the new 2020 Creta at the 2020 Auto Expo. Recently, it was learnt that the BS 6 compliant petrol and diesel variants will be expensive by Rs 15,000-20,000 and Rs 35,000-40,000, respectively, as compared to the Hyundai creta BS4 variants. The company has said that it will pass this additional cost involved in the upgradation of existing BS 4 petrol and diesel engines to BS 6 emission levels to the buyers in a phased-wise manner.
"As of now, we will not pass the total cost incurred to upgrade to BS 6 immediately to the consumers. It will be gradual," Vikash Jain, National Sales Head, Hyundai India told PTI when asked whether the company will pass the cost or absorb it, given the market condition. The company is of the view that passing the additional cost in phased-wise manner would help it in gaining the sales momentum and the buyer will also not feel burdened. Hence, it has decided to not pass the total incremental cost incurred in switching to Bharat Stage 6 emission in one go to the customers. The 2020 new-gen Hyundai Creta will rival the likes of MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks in the Indian market.
The South-Korean automaker also expected the second half of 2020 to be better for the auto industry. "In 2020, the auto sector is expected to remain flattish to low rate of growth of 2-3 per cent," Jain said. Explaining Hyundai's strategy to counter negative growth, Jain told that the company will launch a host of new vehicles and facelifted versions. "We have introduced new Aura which has seen a lot of traction in demand. The new Creta will also be launched soon," Jain said without elaborating. Currently, Hyundai has a market share of 17.3 percent in the Indian automotive industry and Kolkata happens to be a major contributor in it with around 19.4 percent marketshare, said Jain on the sidelines of the inauguration of 7th dealership in city - Gajraj Hyundai.
