The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has recently launched the M6 all-electric facelift MPV at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2024) for Southeast Asian markets. The new BYD M6 is a rebadged version of the standard e6 MPV. It is now being offered with new features, a new design, and a robust powertrain. The M6/e6 EV is specially built for the Indonesian market. Indonesia is currently facing major pollution issues, and to reduce vehicular emissions, several new electric vehicles will be launched in the country.
The BYD M6 looks different from the e6 MPV in terms of design. The Chinese EV maker has not confirmed whether this version will be launched in the Indian market or whether the brand will continue to offer the India-spec BYD MPV. In India, the e6 electric MPV is priced at INR 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The new M6 variant is offered at IDR 379 million (around INR 19.60 lakh) in Indonesia.

The BYD e6/M6 facelift comes in three variants: a standard seven-seater, a Superior seven-seater, and a Superior six-seater version that has captain seats in the middle row. Compared to the new M6, the India-spec e6 model only features bench seats in the second row. BYD has completely transformed the front face of the facelift version. The global-spec e6/M6 model shares design cues with the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV. It now comes equipped with a sleeker LED headlight, chrome accents under the hood, DRL units, and a revamped bumper with air intakes.
The BYD M6 facelift rolls on redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels. The e6 facelift features new chrome linings and LED taillights at the rear. Inside the cabin, it features a bigger 12.8-inch touchscreen rotating infotainment screen, a new drive mode knob, and a redesigned centre console. For safety, the BYD M6 receives six airbags, a door opening warning, and stability control. The Superior variant also receives advanced driver assistance like autonomous emergency braking, lane centering assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beams.
Powering the BYD MPV is a single electric motor that churns out a power of 160 bhp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. In comparison to the e6 available in India, the power output is higher in the new M6. The India-spec e6 can generate up to 94 bhp of power and a peak torque of 180 Nm. The new electric MPV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 10 seconds. It houses two battery options: a 71.8 kWh and a 55.4 kWh. The former can provide a range of 530 km on one charge, while the latter has a capacity of 55.4 kWh, which helps the MPV cover a distance of 420 km on one charge.
Hyundai India MD confirmed that the refreshed SUV will arrive next month; the current engines will receive BS6 versions.
