Chevrolet has finally revealed the 2020 Silverado HD post teasing the truck for quite some time. The brand also detailed the specifications and powertrain options during the unveiling. The new Silverado HD will make its public debut at the Chicago Auto Show later this week.
The truck is now available with two engine options. The first of which is a new 6.6-litre V8 petrol engine mated to an upgraded six-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional four-wheel drive system. Moreover, the engine has direct injection and variable valve timing. This engine develops 406 PS of peak power and 628 Nm of torque. The second engine option is the 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8 paired to a new ten-speed Allison automatic transmission. It develops 451 PS of peak power and a massive 1232 Nm of torque. Chevrolet also said that the truck is the first in its segment to offer an integrated Power Takeoff package which makes it easy to power commercial accessories.
The Silverado HD now has a massive tow capacity of 16,102 kg. That’s a 52 percent improvement over its predecessor, thanks to the truck’s upgraded axles and beefier ladder box frame. Chevrolet has also equipped the diesel-powered truck with a more conveniently located DEF fluid tank. The instrument cluster also features a DEF display so drivers will know when to refuel.
Despite the developments in powertrain options, the truck’s interiors haven’t received a major update and still look quite underwhelming. However, the truck can be equipped with an Advanced Trailering System that uses up to 15 exterior cameras to show what’s around a trailer which is pretty tech rich.
The truck will be offered five different variants, Work, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country. Each version of the truck features as slightly different grille design as well as usual equipment differences. The 2020 Silverado HD will go on sale in the US market by mid-2019 post its debut at the Chicago Auto Show.
Kia has not announced the launch timeline, but it is expected to unveil the new Clavis SUV by the end of 2024.
