Indian Automobile Industry was severely affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic. The nationwide lockdown was enforced leading to the closure of dealerships and shutting down of production units across the country. With the relaxation of restrictions, the Indian automobile manufacturers are slowly resuming operations with precautionary measures being taken. Maruti Suzuki got the first big scare when an employee at the car maker's Maruti Suzuki Manesar plant tested positive for COVID-19. The employee tested positive on Friday and there was a possibility of a second infection as of Saturday, a company representative said in a statement to media outlets.
The employee who tested positive on Friday was hospitalized in stable condition, Maruti elaborated further in the statement. The worker was working till May 15 and his residence is now included in the containment zone. Maruti Suzuki had begun production at the Manesar plant last week. Earlier, the local authorities at Gurgaon had allowed Maruti to start manufacturing at Manesar unit on single shift while fixing the number of employees at 4696. The automaker had suspended production after the Indian Government enforced the nationwide lockdown in March due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
It’s not just Maruti Suzuki that got a Coronavirus scare, even Hyundai Motor India is grappling with infection. Three employees at the Korean automaker's plant have tested positive for coronavirus, the company said on Sunday. It’s just days after Hyundai Motors began operation with a gap of almost two-month since lockdown. The company had restarted operations at the Kancheepuram district plant on the 8th of May 2020. In a statement to the media outlets it said that three of its employees started showing symptoms of cough and cold. The employees started exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 in the first week of the plant resumption and were tested positive for the same. Currently, they are being treated for the virus.
This might not be the last news about Coronavirus in the Automobile Industry with the automakers slowly resuming operations. The Indian manufacturers are implementing measures to sanitize the plants with the spike in Coronavirus cases in the country.
