Datsun Factory Produces 1,00,000th Car in India

The company has also announced plans to expand its network of standalone Datsun outlets from 50 to 150 by end of fiscal.

The 100,000th locally manufactured car, a Redigo 1.0-litre, was rolled out from the Renault-Nissan Alliance's manufacturing facility in Chennai.

The facility, spread over 610 acres, is capable of manufacturing 480,000 units per annum. In the last fiscal, the company produced 3,17,000 units, which was an increase of 40 percent from the previous year. Colin MacDonald, CEO and managing director, Renault Nissan Automotive India, stated that the company intends to produce 4,00,000 in the next two years.

Jerome Saigot, managing director, Nissan Motor India spoke about adding to the number of standalone Datsun dealerships in Tier-II and Tier-III cities across the country thanks to increasing demand. By the end of this fiscal, Datsun wants to take the total up to 150 dealerships from the 50 at present. Together, Nissan and Datsun have 275 touchpoints across 172 cities in India.

“We are confident that our challenger brand positioning, unique product differentiation and best-in-class cost of ownership will continue to drive the customer’s owning and experiencing our products," Saigot said in a company statement.
