The Indian automotive industry is undergoing a transition from BS4 to BS6 norms. The automotive manufacturers were given a timeline of three years to make their vehicles BS6 compliant. With the BS6 era finally coming alive, automotive brands are burning their midnight fuel to launch the BS6 vehicles in the Indian market. Many companies have completely adopted the stringent BS6 vehicular norms while some have struggled to offer BS6 vehicles to the Indian consumers.
Datsun is one such brand who has failed to launch a BS6 compliant vehicle so far in India but it is going to change soon. Recently, it released the teaser image of the 2020 Datsun Redi-Go facelift on social media platforms, indicating a launch in the coming days. Besides the teaser image, the 2020 Datsun redi-GO facelift brochure has been leaked. The official launch can be expected once the lockdown ends and the dealerships open.
Datsun will sell the 2020 redi-GO in four variants: D, A, T and T (O). The new Datsun redi-GO will be powered by a BS6 compliant 0.8L petrol engine and a 1.0-litre petrol engine. The former will generate 53 bhp of maximum power and 72 Nm of peak torque with 5-speed manual transmission while the latter is expected to deliver 67 bhp of power and 91 Nm of peak torque. The transmission choices would be a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit.
With leaked images available on the web, we can say that the Redi-Go facelift gets a host of changes. The new hatch flaunts sharper headlamps which closely match the ones on Nissan Kicks SUV. The front grille is bolder and striking with a chrome garnish around it. The bumper is reworked and looks edgier with fog lamps, seen for the first time in the segment.
New alloy wheels make an appearance in the Datsun Redi-Go Facelift with a revised rearview mirror and a new Datsun badge on the front fenders. It sees a minor change in the form of new LED elements incorporated inside the tail lamps. The hatchback will come with two new paint schemes - Brown and blue.
If we talk about the interiors, seats come with dual-tone fabric with a new upholstery for the door pads. The addition of a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The safety features include a reverse parking camera and a passenger-side airbag.
The Datsun Redi-Go facelift will be competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Renault Kwid in the Indian market. Prices will be on the higher side due to the addition of new features and BS6 compliant engine. BS4 Datsun Redi-Go basic variant was sold at Rs 2.82 lakh (Ex-Showroom, India) till now.
