Tata Nexon EV failed to meet the certified driving range on a single charge as claimed by Tata Motors

Tata Nexon EV has been delisted from Delhi Government’s subsidy scheme for electric vehicles. The reason being that the model failed to meet the specified range on a single charge. A complaint was filed by a Nexon EV owner stating the same. The complaint also stated that the SUV was purchased from Tata Motors official dealer in Delhi, while the registration was done on December 3 last year. As per the officials, a show-cause notice was issued to Tata Motors by the transport department.

Furthermore, Tata Motors has refuted such claims saying that it is baseless. The company states that the Nexon EV meets the promised range of 312 kms, which is ARAI certified, on a single charge.

"The Delhi government has decided to suspend subsidy on a EV car model, pending final report of a Committee, due to complaints by multiple users of sub-standard range performance," he tweeted. "We are committed to support EVs, but not at the cost of trust & confidence of citizens in claims by manufacturers," tweeted Kailash Gahlot.

Since its launch a year ago, Tata Nexon EV is regarded as India’s highest-selling electric vehicle. Performance-wise, the Nexon EV draws power from an electric motor paired to a 30.2kWh lithium-ion IP67 battery. The electric motor further generates 129 bhp power and 245 Nm peak torque. Furthermore, the SUV comes with a driving range of 312 kms in a single charge. The Nexon EV also comes with two driving modes - Drive and Sport.

Recently, we interacted with one of the Nexon EV owners. He too claimed that the SUV gave him a driving range of 250 kms on a single charge. He further denied the statement issued by the homegrown automaker claiming a driving range of 312 kms on a single charge of the battery. You can check it out in the video below.
