Detailed Comparison: Volkswagen T-Roc vs Kia Seltos vs MG Hector

Volkswagen T-Roc has found two worthy contenders in form of MG Hector and current segment-leader Kia Seltos.

Volkswagen India had launched the Volkswagen T-Roc on March 18, 2020 for at an introductory price of Rs 19.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India). The T-Roc will be sold in India as a CBU (completely built up) unit while it will be competing against the likes of Kia Seltos and MG Hector. Kia made a strong entry in the Indian market last year with the Seltos gaining a good foothold in the high volume compact SUV segment. MG hasn’t looked back either since the launch of Hector eight months ago as the SUV registered 50,000 bookings. The three SUVs mentioned here are quite formidable in terms of features, design and engine performance hence, it would be interesting to find out where they stand against each other. 

Volkswagen T-Roc Features & Engine Specs

The T-Roc is based on Volkswagen Group's MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform while powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI Evo turbocharged petrol engine which develops top power of 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. If we talk about dimensions, the compact SUV measures 4342 mm in length, 1819 mm in width along with a wheelbase of 2590 mm. T-Roc compact SUV will be coming in a total of six color options namely Deep Black, Curcuma Yellow, Pure White, Energetic Orange, Ravenna Blue, and Indium Grey. The T-Roc cabin feels premium due to Vienna leather seats and it is spacious enough to accommodate 5 individuals comfortably. The features include keyless entry/start, dual-zone Climatronic AC, 10.25-inch Active information display and panoramic sunroof. For entertainment purposes, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is there. The bookings are open for T-Roc while deliveries will be made in April 2020.

Kia Seltos Features & Engine Specs 

Kia Seltos is one of the best selling model in the compact SUV segment in India as it just sold over 15,000 units in January 2020. Kia Seltos comes with 3 engine options, identical to the second generation Creta 2020. The 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine delivers power output of 113.5 bhp and max torque of 250 Nm. Engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre petrol engine generates 113 bhp power output and 144 Nm of peak torque while mated to either 6-speed manual or IVT unit. The 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine churns out 138 bhp of power and 242 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Dimensions wise, Kia Seltos measures 4315 mm in length, 1800 mm in width and 1645mm in height. Other highlights include Driver and Passenger Airbags & ABS, Air Conditioner with Rear AC Vents, Rear parking sensors, Keyless Entry. Kia Seltos price starts at Rs 9.89 Lakh (Ex-Showroom).

MG Hector Features & Engine Specs

MG Hector took the Indian compact SUV market by storm with over 20,000 units been already sold in the last eight months. The Hector is available in a total of 11 variants with different powertrain-transmission combination across four trims - Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It is offered with three engine options - Petrol, Petrol Hybrid and Diesel. The diesel variant churns out 168 bhp and 350 Nm while mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. The Hector petrol variant will get the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission generating 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. There is also a 1.5-litre engine with a 48 Volt mild hybrid system which is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Exciting features include 360 Degree Camera View, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Electric Parking Brake, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ABS+EBD+Brake Assist. MG Hector introductory price is Rs 12.18 lakh  (ex-showroom, India) and goes upto Rs 16.88 Lakh for the top variant.
