The company has stated that it will launch two new SUVs next year – a five-seater and a seven-seater. The five-seater SUV will be pit against the Hyundai Creta and Renault Kaptur, while the seven-seater will go up against Jeep’s Compass.
Both cars will be built on the carmaker’s L550 platform that the Land Rover Discovery Sport is built on. The cars could share structural parts with the Discovery Sport as well. The engines of both cars won’t be shared and they will look different.
FCA’s 2.0-litre Multijet II engine will make 140hp on the five-seater and 170hp in its seven-seater SUV. Both cars will be locally assembled at Tata-FCA’s joint venture facility at Ranjangaon, near Pune.
Development of both cars have been ongoing for two years now with a number of test mules spotted around the country.
