Ertiga Surpasses Innova Crysta

Maruti Suzuki had launched facelifted version of the Ertiga MPV in India last year and ever since then it had been doing fairly well for the brand in terms of numbers. Now, reports for the month of August 2019 have come and it reveals that Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has secured the top spot and is doing well by a huge margin. Ertiga’s main competition is the Toyota Innova Crysta and has left that behind by a huge margin.

Maruti Suzuki sold 8,391 units of Ertiga last month This 4,876 units more than what Maruti sold same month last year. Maruti Suzuki sold 3,515 units of Ertiga in August 2018. Ertiga has seen a positive growth of 139 percent. When the whole industry is going through a hard time Ertiga has done a great job for itself.

Toyota Innova Crysta has occupied the second position on the sales chart by selling 4,796 units in August this year. that is a whopping 3,595 units lesser than the number one a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Before the launch of the all-new Ertiga in 2018, Toyota Innova Crysta was India’s best-selling MPV.

The all-new Ertiga is based on the Maruti’s HEARTECT platform and is much bigger in terms of size when compared to the previous generation. Ertiga is also the only affordable MPV in India that offers a mild-hybrid system. Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki also introduced the 1.5-litre diesel engine with the Ertiga that is also available with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Maruti Suzuki had already discontinued the Fiat sourced 1.3L diesel engine and is only available in 1.5L petrol and 1.5L in-house developed diesel engine which is BS6 compliant.

The all-new, in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine available with the Ertiga produces a maximum power of 94 Bhp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 225 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. The new engine gets a dual-mass flywheel linkage between the engine and the transmission that helps to channelize the torque evenly and adds refinement too. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Maruti Suzuki had recently launched a premium version of the Ertiga MPV which is sold via Nexa dealerships and that is also doing pretty good in terms of sales. Within a month Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell 2,356 units of XL6 in Indian market. Maruti has sold 10,747 units if we combine the performance of both Ertiga and XL6. This makes it the fifth best-selling car of August 2019.

Apart from Ertiga and Innova Crysta sharing the first and second place position other brands that made their way to the top 10 are Mahindra Bolero at third position with 3,993 units, recently-launched Renault Triber with 2,490 units, followed by Nexa’s new offering XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, Mahindra Xylo, Honda BR-V, Datsun Go+ and Tata Hexa.
