Previously codenamed known Kite 5, the Tigor shares many features with the Tiago hatchback.

Here are five details about Tata’s latest offering, the Tigor.

1) Its roof is coupé-like
The Tigor forgoes the conventional boxy sedan profile for a swooping roofline. The boot is designed and placed in a way that gives the car a distinctive look. The altered roofline requires the sedan to have larger rear doors to allow better backseat access.

2) Boot space is remarkable
The Tigor offers a roomy 420-litre boot, despite being a sub-four-metre car. This will be the largest boot offered on a compact sedan when Tata launches it. Currently, the Hyundai Xcent’s 407-litre boot is the largest in this segment.

3) It will be placed below the Tata Zest
Tata says the Tigor’s price will be more affordable compared to other compact sedans available in the market. At the time of launch, the car will have no direct competitors. The only real competition is the Chevrolet Beat Essentia, which will release in later 2017. The Tigor will most probably replace the ageing Indigo eCS.

4) It will share power with the Tiago
The Tigor and the hatchback have a lot in common - this includes the engine as well. When it goes on sale, the Tigor will be powered by the company’s three-cylinder 1.2-litre Revotron naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engines, mated to five-speed manual gearboxes. Just like the hatch, the sedan will come with the option of an automatic gearbox.

5) It will be feature-rich
To be clear, there will be more available with the Tigor as compared with the Tiago. A Harman-sourced touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera, automatic climate control and a rear centre armrest are some of the perks you will see in the Tigor once it launches.
