Force Motors all-set to launch ABS version of famed off-roading SUV Gurkha

The newly enforced safety regulations have forced the makers to update their existing models as per the new safety regime. The latest car to be updated is the Force Motors’ famed off-roading SUV Gurkha. The company had now made ABS standard on all variants of the Gurkha. The price of the updated Force Gurkha is now Rs. 11.05 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. With the update, the Gurkha Xplorer now comes with ABS on both the 5-door and the top tier 3-door model. The price for the top-model 3-door Gurkha is now Rs. 13.30 lakh.

Force has yet not announced about updating the Xpedition model with the anti-lock braking system, however the update is bound arrive soon as the vehicles that do not comply with the minimum safety requirements cannot be registered, hence an update is mandatory for the sale of any vehicle. Now that the company has made ABS standard on Force Gurkha, the prices for the off-roading SUV have increased by Rs. 30,000. Apart from the addition of the new safety feature, there is no other change on the off-roading SUV. The deliveries for the updated ABS model of Gurkha will begin from July 2019.

Force had launched the updated model of their Gurkha in 2018 and had named it the Xtreme trim. This was a higher-spec variant of the SUV and not a lot of changes were witnessed on the SUV. However, the addition of a new engine did substantially increase the power output of the SUV. A new 2.2L engine was introduced with the Xtreme variant and it was rated to deliver 140 Bhp and 321 Nm, which was a significant bump in figures. The new engine also comes mated to a new 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine on the Xtreme as well as the gearbox, both are sourced from Mercedes-Benz. Earlier, Force Gurkha used to come equipped with a 2.6L diesel engine rated to deliver 85 Bhp.

Apart from the changes in the engine department, the Xtreme trim of Gurkha also comes with a new instrument cluster and revised interiors. The G-Wagen inspired looks of Gurkha with round headlamps on the front lends it the distinct street presence that is liked by many of the off-roading SUV customers. As already mentioned, apart from the addition of the ABS, there are no other mechanical changes in the Gurkha. The SUV still comes with a low-range gearbox and still lacks the shift-on-fly option for the same. The factory fitted snorkel arms the Gurkha with an increased water-wading capacity. Force Gurkha Xtreme locks horns with Mahindra Thar in the market.
