Ford Ranger pick-up truck has been spotted doing test runs on Indian road

Earlier this year in October 2020, Ford and Mahindra announced a joint-venture partnership. Under the new collaboration, the two automobile manufacturers plan to produce products sharing Mahindra’s all-new mStallion range of turbo petrol engines and Ford Motor Company’s proven VX-772 platform. There are speculations that Ford might launch a pick-up truck in India.

Recently, a white-coloured test mule of Ford Ranger was spotted doing test runs somewhere in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The spied Ford Ranger is a pickup version of the Ford Endeavour or Everest SUV as it called in the international market. The four-door vehicle with a loading bay at the rear shares its underpinnings with the Endeavour SUV. From these leaked images, we can see a black grille up front along with smoked headlamps. Furthermore, it is seen riding on black wheels. Also, the spotted model is seen wearing a red number plate which indicates that it is fresh from the production facility despite being old in terms of model year (2017MY).

In terms of features, expect the Ranger to get locking differentials, an active transfer case & systems like driving modes, hill-climb assist, hill descent control, traction control, and rollover mitigation. Under the bonnet, the Ford Ranger in Thailand is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel four-cylinder engine that churns out 158 bhp power @ 3,200rpm and 385 Nm torque @ 1,600-2,600rpm. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an automatic transmission as an option. While the top-end variants offer a 2.0-litre diesel four-cylinder unit that develops 177bhp power @ 3,500rpm and 420Nm torque @ 1,750-2,500rpm. The powertrain is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox alongsid a 10-speed automatic gearbox as an option. If Ford plans to launch the Ranger in India, it will be offered with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system.

When introduced, Ford Ranger BS6 will compete against the likes of Isuzu Motors’ D-Max V-Cross in its segment.
