Ford’s Figo S launching soon

The sportier Figo hatch comes with a tweaked suspension, bigger 15-inch alloy wheels and more aggressive styling.

What sets this range-topping Figo S variant apart from the standard car are its brand new 15-inch alloy wheels, smoked-out headlamps, honeycomb grille, two-tone paint-scheme, ‘S’ decals along the side, rear spoiler and an all-black interior. The changes aren’t just cosmetic though.

Just like the legendary 2008 Ford Fiesta S, (a car that built itself quite a reputation amongst driving enthusiasts) the Figo S’ sportier suspension setup will be stiffer than the suspension on its regular counterpart. What is unclear is whether Ford has altered the car’s ride height so that it drives more dynamically.

The S is likely to go on sale with the option of two engines - the 88hp, 1.2-litre petrol, and the stronger 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel. Outputs as far as power is concerned remains the same as those of the regular Figo, which already has a reputation for being fun to drive. The 100hp diesel in fact, drives so well that it even gives the stronger 145hp Abarth Punto tough competition on a race track.

Ford is looking at launching the Figo S in a couple of weeks, and it will go up against the like of Maruti’s recently launched Baleno RS. It could be priced around ₹30,000-50,000 higher than the Figo’s top Titanium+ variants (1.5 diesel: ₹7.25 lakh, 1.2 petrol: ₹6.36 lakh).
