The Ford Figo and Ford Aspire are two vehicles by the US-based manufacturer which are pretty much the main volume drivers of the company in India. Both these cars are also sold in several international markets including Brazil. A report by an auto outlet now says that Ford is developing the next generation models of the Ka and Ka Sedan in Brazil. Both of them are sold in India as the Figo and Aspire and are said to be codenamed as B680 and B680S. The report claims that these new models are expected to be launched by 2021.
Reportedly, the next-generation versions of both these cars are likely to be based on Ford’s B-platform. This is the same platform that will be used on the next-generation model of the Ford EcoSport. The new Figo is expected to be larger than the outgoing model and could possibly replace the Fiesta in the international markets. The Aspire is also likely to grow in size and could replace the Fiesta sedan.
However, there is no word yet on whether Ford will introduce the updated Figo and Aspire in India. Further, the size of the Aspire will not be increased in India because of the sub-4 meter benefits the Aspire gets. In fact, the current international spec version of the Aspire is bigger than the one sold in India. Ford updated the Aspire sedan sold in India last year while a facelifted Figo was launched earlier this year.
Talking about the current-gen Ford Aspire, it is India’s most powerful compact sedan. The 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon petrol engine powered Aspire has 121 Bhp of power and 150 Nm on tap, which makes it the most powerful car in its class. This engine gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Other engine options include the 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder Dragon petrol unit that churns out 95 Bhp of power and 120 Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre TDCI mill that puts out 98.6 Bhp of power along with 215 Nm of torque. This engine also comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Coming to the current-gen Ford Figo, the stylish hatchback also comes with three engine options that it shares with the Aspire. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine churns out 95 Bhp of power along with a peak torque of 120 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel variants of the Figo Facelift feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates a maximum of 98.6 Bhp of power and a peak torque of 215 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission. The most powerful engine on offer here is the 1.5L petrol engine that generates 121 Bhp of power and comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.
