The first production electric motorcycle by the company will go on sale in 2019.

The company had shown its LiveWire electric motorcycle concept four years back and it was the first Harley motorcycle to feature an electric power train. Now, Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer of Harley-Davidson, has confirmed that Harley-Davidson is set to introduce its first production electric motorcycle within the next “18 months”.

Harley has been seeing its sales drop globally and the company recently closed its production facility in Kansas City to cut costs. Going electric will open the bike maker up to a completely new segment for the iconic brand and Levatich didn’t divulge any details about this bike either. It’s unclear whether this bike will be based on the LiveWire concept or not.

The LiveWire was shown in the recent Hollywood flick "Avengers:Age of Ultron" which helped it in garnering global recognition. A lot of bike manufacturers are focusing on electric mobility now.
