Why is Honda Amaze second best seller in segment?

Honda Amaze has been having a good time in the market as it has gone on to become the best selling car for the company in India. When the sub-4 meter tax relief was introduced in India, the maker just went ahead and launched the sedans in the segment. The models launched then seemed like an afterthought as they had very uninspiring designs. However, a lot has changed now as the new generations of the sub-4 meter sedans are hitting the market. In a similar move, Honda also launched their second generation Amaze in the market in 2018 Auto Expo. The sedan has become a huge success for the company as it has gone on to achieve a remarkable sales figure of 85,601 units between April 2018 and March 2019. This pegs the Amaze just behind the segment leader Maruti Dzire. Lagging behind the Honda Amaze are Hyundai Xcent and Tata Tigor. The jump in sales of the Honda Amaze has been remarkable as the car has gone on and almost tripled its sales for the second generation model.

Perhaps one of the major reasons behind the Japanese maker’s Amaze bagging such good sales numbers it the design aspect. The new Honda Amaze has a unique design in the segment. The roof line of the sedan reminds one of European coupes and gives it a distinct identity on the road. The overall lines of the sub-4 meter compact sedan also lend it a very attractive look. Not to mention that the huge chrome strip at the front grille also gives the car a very aggressive and premium look at the same time.

Not to mention that the Honda Amaze recently became the first car in the segment to offer CVT automatic gearbox on the top-end VX variant as well. Also, before this as well, the car came with the option of an automatic transmission on petrol as well as diesel engine. This provided the customers with the choice of having a refined CVT automatic gearbox with a diesel engine. The petrol variant with CVT gearbox is affordable which again is a boon for the customers.

Honda generally prices its models at the higher end of the price spectrum in the segment, but with Amaze, the maker has broken the tradition and gone with a value for money proposal. The prices for Honda Amaze start at Rs. 5.91 lakhs, ex showroom Delhi whereas the segment leader and affordable Dzire’s prices start at Rs. 5.71 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The top trim is available in both petrol and diesel engine options and the price for the Honda Amaze Petrol CVT VX is Rs. 8.57 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi and the Honda Amaze Diesel CVT VX costs Rs. 9.57 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. This is slightly expensive as compared to the competition. However, the major lead that the Amaze has over the competition is the very refined and advanced CVT automatic transmission that it offers instead of the cheaper and not that good AMT transmissions that the rival in the segment offers.

At last the Amaze also comes with the Honda badge which is the mark of trust and reliability in the Indian market. The peace of mind that the customers get while making a Honda Amaze purchase due to the presence of Honda badge is also a reason that the sales of the sedan are going strong.
