Hyundai AX1 could be launched in the Indian market by mid 2022

Hyundai has been working on an all-new product which will mark its entry in the micro-SUV segment. Being codenamed as Hyundai AX1, the micro SUV has been teased ahead of its world premiere. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the South-Korean automaker will unveil the production-ready version or the pre-production mule in the coming months. With trial production already started in Korea, the AX1 is expected to hit the roads by September this year in Korea. It could be launched in the Indian market by mid 2022.

The teaser gives an idea of the headlamp units and the tail-lamp cluster. It is believed to share the underpinnings with the Grand i10 Nios while following Hyundai's latest design language with the front fascia flaunting split headlamp setup. The headlamps teaser image shows the round projector unit integrated in the bumper with a LED DRL ring. The image also gives a glimpse of the upper light cluster which in all likelihood will be housing the turn indicators. Coming to the tail-lamp styling, it appears to be in a triangular pattern with LEDs. The same we have noticed earlier in the spy-images of the micro-SUV which also confirmed the presence of split light clusters at the rear.

Hyundai AX1 is expected to measure less than 3.7 metres in length, thus making it smaller than Hyundai Venue. It will be the entry-level Hyundai SUV in India upon its launch while positioned below the Venue. The AX1 will rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the upcoming Tata HBX in the Indian market. Being based on the Grand i10 Nios' K1 architecture, it is expected to be offered only with a handful of petrol engine options. The base variants could make use of the Santro's 1.1L powerplant while the range-topping variants might get a 1.2L petrol unit which also powers the Grand i10 Nios. Meanwhile, in other news, Hyundai has delayed the launch of Alcazar 7-seater SUV due to COVID-19 pandemic in India.
