Hyundai recently launched the latest generation of Grand i10 by the name of Grand i10 NIOS in the Indian market and the prices for the hatch start at Rs. 4.99 lakh and go all the way up to Rs. 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The latest version of Grand i10 locks horns with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo in the mid-size hatchback segment. The latest from the South Korean brand is loaded with features and also comes with a very fresh design in the segment. The company is also selling the older Grand i10 alongside the NIOS in the market. This will be a low cost offering in the segment and a possible option for the cab market.
However, the brand also has plans of bringing out the CNG version of the Grand i10 NIOS, just like the one offered with the Santro hatchback. Currently, the Grand i10 NIOS comes with a 1.2L petrol engine rated to deliver 81 Bhp and 114 Nm and this engine is BS-VI ready. On the other hand, the diesel engine is a 1.2L unit rated to deliver 74 Bhp and 190 Nm. There are reports on the internet stating that the CNG variant of the hatchback can be brought out in the Magna trim of the NIOS. The older Grand i10 also comes with the CNG variant in the Magna trim. There are chances that the CNG variant of the Grand i10 NIOS will be more expensive than the Magna petrol variant. CNG is a very popular choice in metro cities and the introduction of the CNG variant of Grand i10 NIOS will surely boost the sales of the hatchback.
Apart from the CNG variant of the Grand i10 NIOS, there are hopes that the maker will also bring the newly developed 1L turbo petrol engine to the hatchback. This is the same engine that the brand offered for the first in time in India on the recently launched Hyundai Venue sub-4 metre compact SUV. A sporty version of the NIOS has already been spied in Europe and the brand has also teased the same via some official sketches. The spyshots from Europe hint at a lot of aesthetic changes in the hatchback as well. The photos have revealed that the sportier Grand i10 NIOS may come with stylish alloys, wider tires, and dual exhaust pipes among others.
It remains to be seen as to what tuning state the turbo petrol engine on Grand i10 NIOS comes in. The maker offers the 1L engine in international markets in two states of tune -- 100 PS and 120 PS (available with Venue SUV). While the NIOS may come with the lower tuned engine, it would still be very quick as the NIOS is a significantly lighter vehicle.
