After dethroning the Maruti Vitara Brezza from the bestseller spot in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment, the South Korean maker Hyundai seems to have set its eyes on the mid-size hatchback segment as well. The company recently unveiled the new generation model of the Grand i10 hatch that is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market in the coming time. The official name of the hatch is Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS. The bookings for the new hatchback have been already been opened at an amount of Rs. 11,000. The bookings can be made online or by visiting the Hyundai dealerships. However, what is to be taken note here of is that the old Grand i10 will not be discontinued as of now and will be sold alongside the new NIOS.
Upon launch, the Grand i10 NIOS will lock horns with Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo among others in the segment. The upcoming hatch from the brand is based on the platform used in the newer version of Santro and it has been extended the form the underpinnings of the new larger hatch. The new platform will not only make the upcoming i10 NIOS bigger, it will also help the hatch shed a lot of weight.
SS Kim, the MD and CEO of Hyundai India spoke on the occasion of the unveil of the Grand i10 NIOS and stated,

GRAND i10 NIOS is the 3rd Generation of the legendary brand ‘i10’ and will co-exist with GRAND i10 which will further expand Hyundai portfolio and cater to a much wider segment of customers from Urban, Semi-urban and rural markets.”
Talking of the design of the Grand i10 NIOS, the new hatch comes with arrow shaped DRLs integrated in the front grille. The headlamps have been updated to be projector units, with LED treatment making a possible appearance here. The alloy wheels add a distinct look to the hatch and give it a sharp touch, so does the front grille sans chrome elements. While there will be no changes in the mechanical department of the hatch, one can expect some new features to make their way to the new Grand i10 NIOS.
