Hyundai Kona Reaches Dealerships Before Launch

South Korean maker Hyundai is all set to make an entry into the electric vehicle space in the Indian market. The launch event of the electric SUV Kona is scheduled to take place on 9 July. Ahead of the launch, the company has started sending the SUV to its dealership network across the country.

Kona electric SUV has already been launched in the markets abroad and it has garnered positive reviews from the markets where it is being sold. The SUV was also spotted multiple times while the South Korean company was testing it in India for the local market. The company has plans to import the vehicle in the Indian market as a fully built unit, and this may end up pushing the prices of the Kona by a small margin. However, despite the fact, the Kona EV will be the first affordable electric SUV to be sold in the country’s market. One can expect the Kona to be sold around the Rs. 20-24 lakh price point, but there is no confirmation on the same as of now. The latest SUV from the company in the Indian market will be a kind of flag bearer of the brand in the electric vehicle segment in India. The Kona will display as to what the brand is capable of performing regarding the electric cars market in India.

The SUV has been listed by the brand on the website. However, the listing does not make it clear as to which variant of the SUV will be launched in the Indian market. The company sells their electric SUV in two variants in the global market. The base variant comes with a lower range while the more expensive variant comes with a longer range courtesy a larger battery pack.

The base trim of the upcoming electric vehicle comes with a powertrain rated for 100 kW and 335 Nm. The range of the vehicle on a full charge is nearly 300 kms and it comes with a 39.2 kWh battery. Whereas the naught to ton figure for the SUV variant will be 9.3 seconds. The top model comes with a 64 kWh battery rated to deliver 204 PS and comes with a larger range. The company also offers fast charging on the upcoming vehicle and kits for the same will also be provided to the customers. Although it is not clear whether the fast charger will be offered as a standard accessory or not.

As far as competition is concerned, the Kona will not face any direct competition at the time of launch but the coming times will see the launch of EVs like the Nissan Leaf and MG e-ZS which will provide the Kona with some rivalry.
