Premium SUV is laden with tech; India could get electric variant only.

Hyundai has showcased its Kona SUV at Auto Expo 2018. While it is not going on sale right now, Hyundai seems to be using this venue as a platform to showcase its capabilities in making stylish and premium SUVs that come loaded with the latest tech. And also gauge public response to Kona as the Korean-carmaker is evaluating launching this SUV in electric vehicle guise in the country in the next couple of years.

The Kona may not be an imposing SUV, by any means – but it is rather well-styled. In terms of length, is actually shorter than the India-made Creta, however, the Kona is a more premium product. It features a large and aggressive Hyundai’s latest 'Cascade' grille upfront with slim LED daytime running lights that are positioned above the main headlights thus contributing to giving the Kona a very distinctive face. There’s an interesting mix of light-catching lines at the sides while the wheel cladding that wraps around the rear end and houses the indicator and reversing lights lends the Kona a funky look. Slim LED rear lights and a spoiler are some of the other elements of note on the Kona.

Kona's interiors feel very premium and youthful with the dashboard completed in contrasting colours. It also houses a floating infotainment screen and a heads-up display making this a cabin that would appeal to tech-savvy buyers.

As mentioned earlier, the Kona under evaluation for India will most likely be a pure EV (electric vehicle). While final specifications of its powertrain are not out as yet, the EV model is touted to have a range upwards of 300km on a full charge.
