South Korean maker Hyundai has been on a roll lately with the launch of several new products in the Indian market. First it was the Hyundai Venue that toppled the Maruti Vitara Brezza in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment and then came the flagship Kona electric vehicle. The latest launch from the brand is the Maruti Swift challenging Grand i10 NIOS hatchback. Now the second largest brand in the Indian market has set its sights on the MPV segment in the Indian market. There are reports doing on the internet that the maker is working on launching a new MPV in the Indian market. This new MPV from the brand will take on the likes on Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. The upcoming MPV from Hyundai may also take on the recently launched premium version of Ertiga by the name of Maruti Suzuki XL6 in the Indian market.
The new MPV from the South Korean maker is being developed as of now and one can expect the new car to hit the Indian market by 2021. The platform that is tipped to be used in the upcoming MPV could be the same one that one sees on the sub-4 metre compact SUV Hyundai Venue as this will help keep the company keep the development and manufacturing costs in check.
Although the details of the upcoming MPV from the brand are not available now, one can expect the MPV to carry the same mechanicals as the Hyundai Venue as well. There are chances that the upcoming MPV will come with the same 1L turbo petrol engine and 1.4L diesel engine option as the Venue. Also, the South Korean maker may bring the 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol engine to the new MPV. The transmission options are also expected to remain the same as Venue with the 7-speed DCT automatic transmission making an appearance on the upcoming MPV.
The South Korean maker has no intentions on discontinuing the diesel options in the Indian market and hence one can safely assume that the upcoming MPV from the brand will come with diesel engine even in the BS-VI emission norms era. Not just the MPV, the brand has also plans to update its model line-up in the Indian market. These updates will be brought to Elantra sedan, Xcent compact sedan, and the Elite i20 premium hatchback Indian market. These updated models of the cars will soon be launched in the Indian market.
