Leaving Maruti Ciaz and Honda City behind, Hyundai Verna emerges as best selling C-segment sedan in April 2019.

The sales figures for the month of April are in and there is surprise in the C-segment sedan category as the South Korean maker Hyundai’s Verna sedan has bagged the most sales in the segment for the said month. The total units that Verna sold in the month was 2,932 units and the largest maker in India Maruti’s Ciaz managed to sell only 2,739 units. Lagging on the third spot was the Japanese car maker Honda’s City that managed to accumulate sales of only 2,394 units for the month of April. The sales figures for other cars in the segment, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny, Toyota Yaris and the Fiat Linea were all combined under 3,000 units.

Hyundai went for a full model replacement of Verna sedan in India only last year and the new generation of the car has been a good seller for the company. The new generation model brought fresh looks and spacious as well as premium interiors to the sedan. Apart from the fresh design, feature loaded spacious interior and new looks of the car, the sedan also comes with a lot of engine and gearbox options. The entry-level variant of Verna comes with a 1.4L petrol engine rated to deliver 99 Bhp ad 134 Nm. Paired to the engine is a 5 speed manual gearbox.

The other diesel engine consists of a 1.6-liter natural aspirated unit rated to deliver 121 Bhp and 151 Nm. The other diesel engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit rated to deliver 126 Bhp and 260 Nm. The diesel engines come with the option of a 6-speed manual as well as automatic gearbox options. Apart from these diesel engines, Hyundai also offers a 1.4-liter turbo diesel engine rated to deliver 89 Bhp and 220 Nm and it comes paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The prices for the Hyundai Verna start from Rs. 8.09 lakhs.

The fresh looks of Hyundai Verna coupled with feature packed interiors as well as the spacious cabin makes Verna a popular choice in the segment. Not to say but the Maruti Ciaz still remains one of the most affordable cars in the segment and comes packed with features as well. Next comes in the Honda City that has long been the benchmark of quality in the segment and still is known for its refined nature. There was a time when Honda City was the undisputed king of the segment but the growing rivalry had made the going tough for the Japanese sedan and the latest sales figures are an indication of just that.
