The car’s 2.5-litre petrol engine falls into a much higher duty bracket than the 2.0-litre 718 Boxster and Cayman.

The company recently showed its 718 Boxster/Cayman in GTS form with added power and more performance-enhancing features. The new GTS model were first shown at the 2017 Los Angeles Motor Show, and they put out 365hp. But, Porsche has stated that it will not be bringing these cars to India. Porsche, however, will not bring the two models to India, largely thanks to India's duty structure.

Both GTS models use a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol unit, which puts them in a much higher tax bracket – the government gives cars with petrol engines with displacement less than 2,000cc tax breaks. That will mean Porsche will have to price the car in 911 territory – a situation Porsche wants to avoid.

The standard 718 Boxster and Cayman are powered by a 300hp 2.0-litre motor and they fall into the lower duty bracket. The models are priced at ₹85.53 lakh and ₹81.63 lakh, respectively (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi), which makes them the most affordable sports cars in Porsche’s line-up.
