A few weeks ago, South Korean maker Kia Motors released the exterior sketches of their first vehicle in India, the upcoming Kia SP2i compact SUV. Now the company has released the first sketches of the interiors of the SUV. The SUV will be unveiled for the public next month and the launch will take place some time later. The upcoming Kia SP2i will also share its platform and a lot of parts with Hyundai Creta as Hyundai is a part owner of Kia brand. This would mean that the sharing of parts would allow Kia access to a lot of things cheaply so that the SUV can be priced competitively in the Indian market. Kia SP2i will likely be launched in the Indian market under the name of Tusker and it will be built at the newly setup factory of the brand in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
Kia Tusker will be launched in the market as a 5 seater SUV and will take on the likes of Tata Harrier in the market. The upcoming SUV will be a butch and wide looking vehicle that will come with a very imposing stance, at least that is what the sketches revealed a few weeks earlier reveal. Talking about the interior sketches of the Kia SP2i, the sketches put forth an interior layout that is very different from the Hyundai Creta that the SUV will share parts with. The interiors will have a simplistic but loaded layout. The cabin will also give the passengers a very upmarket feel and floating type a touchscreen infotainment system sits at the center of the dashboard of the Tusker. The ambient lighting is also visible in the sketches revealed by the company.
As far as the under the hood department is concerned, there are chances Kia will fit their first car in India with a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine rated to deliver around 140 Bhp. The second option could be a 1.5L petrol engine. As far as diesel is concerned, it could be a 1.5L turbocharged engine. The South Korean brand plans on launching one car every six months, and a more powerful version of their first vehicle is also on cards. The transmission duties may be handled by a 6 speed manual gearbox and a torque converter automatic gearbox.
The upcoming Kia SUV will lock horns with cars such as Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, and Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. Kia will also load the SP2i SUV with a lot of features so as to make this product very attractive in the already competitive mid-size SUV segment in the market. The features on the SUV may include electric sunroof, rain sensing wipers, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, keyless entry and various ‘connected’ features. One can expect Kia to offer safety features such as six airbags, ABS, traction control, ESP, hill hold, reverse parking camera, cruise control, ISOFIX child seats and speed alerts on the SUV.
