According to reports, Isuzu is getting ready to launch the Isuzu MU-X in India soon. Though the official date has not been announced, it is thought to be May 11, 2017. The MU-X is a replacement for the currently sold Isuzu MU-7.

It is built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV and even shares many aspects with it, like the side profile and the cabin design. The car has styling roots in the D-Max V-Cross pick-up as well especially when you look at the detailing in the front. The back of the car though strays from any common design influences and sport split horizontal tail-lamps and new bumper. The interior uses subdued beige and black and the centre console hosts a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone mirroring options.

The car packs an updated version of its 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. It now makes 174.3hp and 430Nm of torque; 50Nm up over the old car, across a wider rev band (now 1700 to 3500rpm), matched to either six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Isuzu is developing various power options for the Indian market, such as a 4X4 MT and AT initially, with the 4X2 models joining later. The 3.0-litre engine is likely to make its way under the India-spec MU-X’s hood. Later in the year, the carmaker is likely to bring in the cheaper 150hp 1.9-litre engine as well. The car will also be locally assembled.
