The car uses JLR’s 180hp 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine and is available in three trims.

The XE is the only model in the carmaker's India line-up that doesn’t offer a diesel engine; not for too long though. The carmaker is set to introduce a diesel variant soon and, select dealerships have already begun accepting bookings to the tune of ₹2 lakh.

Under the hood of the XE diesel is JLR's 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel that makes 180hp, just as on the XF sedan and F-Pace SUV. The XE’s motor develops 10hp more than the entry-level C-class C 220d, and 10hp lesser than both the BMW 3-series 320d and the Audi A4 35 TDI.

This diesel engine will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Just like the petrol car, the diesel XE is available in three trims – Pure, Prestige and the range-topping Portfolio. There is no difference in equipment between the petrol car and diesel car, according to the brochure.

Dealers say the XE diesel is expected to launch soon, with deliveries likely to start towards the end of the month.
