Under the hood sits JLR’s new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine.

The XE is the only car in Jaguar’s India line-up lacking a diesel engine option. The automaker looks set to change that with the launch of the diesel XE before the end of April.

JLR India constantly been updating its cars with the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine. The new-generation four-cylinder diesel engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

What isn’t clear though is whether the Ingenium diesel in this car will offer the same output as it does in the XF and the F- Pace, where it develops 180hp. Jaguar could introduce a lower-powered 163hp unit under the hood of the baby Jaguar. The sedan could even offer the car in two states of tune, like the current petrol model that offers two different power outputs.

The diesel XE could give sales a boost as right now the XE is one of the more expensive sedans in the segment and it lacks a diesel engine under the hood.
