Jeep Compass Trailhawk’s off-road focused features

The drives for the long-awaited off-roading version of Jeep Compass, the Trailhawk version have begun and the initial words about the SUV have started trickling in. The upcoming trim of the SUV from the brand will not only be a more off-road oriented version of the normal version of the Compass but it will also be the top end model from the brand and will command the highest price in the line-up in the market. The expected price for the Compass Trailhawk is supposed to be somewhere in the Rs. 30 lakhs range, on-road for the consumer. With this expensive a package on offer, let’s take look at the what all does the brand offer that makes the Compass Trailhawk such expensive an offering in the market.

The Trail badge is assigned by the brand to only a few vehicles in its mode line-up anywhere in the world. Therefore, there are some differentiating features bound to make their latest offering more off-road focused. The very first among them that will catch your eye is the thick black stripe on the bonnet, something that lends the SUV more rugged look and minimizes the glare from the bonnet. Next comes the better approach and departure angle of the Trailhawk thanks to the reworked front and rear bonnet of the SUV.

Coming on to more off-roading focused features of the Trailhawk, one finds that the new SUV by the brand comes with an increased ride height of 30 mm, due to the raised suspension. The increased ride height also contributes to better approach and departure angle of the SUV. There are also 4 skid plates present under the body of the Trailhawk to keep the underside of the car safe on all those off-road excursions. The US maker has also added a tow hook to the Trailhawk that is capable of pulling 1.5 times the weight of the SUV.

The Compass Trailhawk also comes with a 4WD system that can be locked, what is more the system also comes with multiple modes for easy off-roading. The rear axle of the SUV can also go completely independent while on the road so as to increase the mileage of the car when you’re not going wild with it. The water wading capability of the SUV has also gone up and the wading depth of the Trailhawk is now 840 mm, which is pretty good. Jeep has also fitted the Trailhawk version of Compass with Falken all terrain tyres that measure 205/70/R17. The tyres sit on 17 inch alloy wheels.

As far as the mechanicals of the SUV go, the Compass Trailhawk comes with a 2L Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine rated to deliver 170 Bhp and 350 Nm. Mated to this diesel engine is the latest 9 speed torque converter automatic unit form the brand. This is the first time that an automatic gearbox is being offered on any trim of Compass. There are hopes that this transmission unit will be made available at the lower trims of the Compass in the coming times as well.
