The new Kia electric SUV would be underpinning Hyundai Motor Group's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP)

Kia Corporation has started work on an all-new electric SUV which was spotted as a test mule for the first time in South Korea. It is being said that the all-electric SUV is based on the Seltos but since it was wearing heavy camouflage, we could not exactly figure out. The spotted model of Kia Seltos electric was not even having tail-lamps. It is learnt that the new Kia electric SUV would be underpinning Hyundai Motor Group's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The aforementioned platform would spawn several Hyundai and Kia vehicles in near future.

Just so you know, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 all-electric SUV is going to be the first vehicle to use the E-GMP platform. One of the notable characteristics of this platform is its ability to support “multi-charging” systems of upto 400V infrastructure. It comes with the world's first patented inverter technology. The company claims that it will return a driving range of 499 kilometres on a single charge. In fact, it can be charged upto 80 percent from standstill in merely 18 minutes via a 350kW fast charger. This architecture offers high-speed charging capability of 800V as standard. Coming back to Kia Seltos electric, it is expected to measure over 4.3 metres in length while the wheelbase could be similar to that of Sportage SUV.

Kia Seltos electric SUV could share a few exterior elements and panels with the Kia EV6, which had its world premiere earlier this year. In spite of heavy camouflage, one can notice the basic elements like rising window line, trunk lid and rear bash plate. Needless to say, the overall design appears boxy with an upright stance. It is being speculated that production-ready Kia Seltos electric could be either named as Kia EV4 or Kia EV5. It is expected to have its global debut by the end of 2021 while going on sale by mid 2022. Meanwhile, in other news, Kia is also working on yet another all-electric SUV which will be bigger in size than Seltos. It will be identical to Hyundai Ioniq 7 in terms of dimensions while it could be called Kia EV7 or Kia EV8.
