Kia India has achieved yet another milestone in the country as the Sonet SUV has recorded sales of 1 Lakh units in less than 12 months of its launch in the domestic market. Simultaneously, Kia Sonet also became the fourth highest-selling SUV in the Indian market. Firstly launched in September 2020, it contributes to almost 17 percent of the overall sales in the sub 4-metre segment while having a share of 32 percent in Kia's total sales in India. The Sonet SUV is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with 17 variants.
Kia Sonet is the only SUV in its segment to get a 1.5L diesel engine with an automatic transmission which has a contribution of 10 percent in the SUV's sales in India. Furthermore, the range-topping variants of the SUV were in much higher demand as they made nearly 64 percent of the overall sales. Around 30 percent buyers opted for a connected tech variant of the Sonet while 26 percent favoured the iMT technology. Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Tae-Jin Park, Executive Director and Chief Sales & Business Strategy Officer, Kia India said, “The Sonet was launched when the auto industry was facing its worst slump in history with the advent of COVID-19 pandemic. The market was battling rock-bottom customer sentiment amidst manufacturing and supply chain setbacks."
Kia had recently launched the 2021 Sonet with 10 new features in the Indian market. "We introduced the Sonet in September last year against all odds, and it would not be an understatement to say that it has rewritten Kia’s success story in India and has made a stronghold in the segment with its industry-leading features and specifications. The one fourth contribution of the iMT variant in total sales testifies that the model has also revolutionised the adaption of new technologies. The PV segment has been witnessing multiple transformations over the years, and as a leading automaker, we are committed to the changing trends and offering new-age driving experience to our customers across segments,” added Park.
