Kia Motors releases sketches of the upcoming Sonet; SUV to make its World Premiere on August 7

The World Premiere of the upcoming Kia Sonet is just a week away. In the meanwhile, the company has just released sketches of the interior and exterior of this compact SUV. According to the images, the production-ready Kia Sonet gets a very dynamic design along with many first-in-segment features.

In terms of design, the front fascia of the compact SUV looks bold due to the tiger-nose black finished front grille with chrome surrounds. The sleek LED headlamps integrated with LED DRLs are inspired from the ‘Wild by Design’ theme. The front bumper houses the fog lamps. There is also a large inlet in the lower middle portion of the SUV. At the sides, the four-wheeler gets 16-inch alloy wheels along with muscular-looking wheel arches with black cladding. The rear end boasts of full LED tail-lamps, a rear diffuser, and dual exhaust pipes. There is a Kia badge mounted on the sculpted tailgate. Other design highlights include blackened B-pillars, slightly raked windshield and black-colored ORVMs.

Its uncompromising attention to detail and selection of colors and materials could have only be inspired by the great cultural heritage that our designers found all over India,” commented Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design at Kia Motors Corporation.

The cabin of Kia Sonet boasts of the segment’s largest 10.25-inch horizontally oriented touchscreen infotainment system with a fully-digital instrument cluster. Further, the infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Andriod Auto, UVO Connect which comes with eSIM connectivity features. The AC vents along with climate control display and controls are placed neatly below the floating touchscreen. Other features include a wireless charger, engine start/stop button, rear AC vents among many others. The door trims, steering wheel, and gear lever area are garnished in silver. 

Under the skin, the upcoming Sonet will be offered with three BS6 compliant engine options. A 1.2-litre unit that delivers 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque, linked to a manual gearbox only. There will also be a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the offering mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission. This engine will belt out 118 bhp of power output with 172 Nm of peak torque. Plus the package would also include a 1.5-litre oil mill that will produce a maximum power of 99 bhp and 240 Nm torque while coming equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
