Kia Sonet is all set to launch tomorrow in the Indian market. The bookings for the sub-compact SUV started on August 20, 2020 at a nominal amount of Rs 25,000 across all the authorized dealerships. It broke all the records by bagging 6523 bookings one the first day itself and if rumors are to be believed, the Sonet has amassed close to 20,000 bookings as of now. Now, our friends at Rushlane have informed us that the Kia Sonet waiting period has gone upto 4-5 weeks despite the fact that deliveries start from tomorrow only.
The waiting period for the subcompact SUV varies depending upon the variant, color and city. The entry-level HTE variant with 1.2L petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission has been in huge demand with the highest waiting period of 8-9 weeks. For those asking, Kia Sonet will be offered in two trim levels: Tech Line & GT Line. The Tech Line trim will be available in a total of five variants: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+. On the other hand, the GT Line trim can only be availed in a fully loaded GTX+ variant. Some of the other variants that attract a higher waiting period of around 6-7 weeks are HTK with 1.2L petrol and 5-speed manual, HTK+ with 1.0L turbo petrol and iMT (AMT), HTK+ with 1.0L turbo petrol and 7-speed DCT, HTK with 1.5L diesel and 6-speed manual and HTX+ with 1.5L diesel and 6-speed manual.
All the other variants, besides the ones mentioned before in the story, will have a general waiting period of 4-5 weeks. It is not a hidden fact anymore that Kia Sonet will have a high level of localization while being manufactured at the company's Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh. Kia Sonet will face fierce competition from Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser in the Indian market. It is Kia's second product to be manufactured locally in India while being the third product to go on sale in the country after Seltos and Carnival. Kia Sonet price is expected in the range of Rs 6.50-12.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
